ZARDOZI EMBROIDERY
An age-old technique once practiced in royal ateliers, Zardozi is a craft of depth and texture. Unlike flat embroidery, it builds on the surface—layering coils of metallic thread, dabka, sequins, and beads to build patterns that feel sculptural, not just decorative. Every piece is made by layering, by feeling, by instinct—until the surface comes alive with depth and character. The technique itself is intricate. Fine metallic coils—sometimes gold, sometimes silver—are stitched onto fabric in raised, textured patterns.
The work demands full attention. It’s heavy, both literally and in spirit. And yet, when done with care, it holds a softness—an elegance that feels earned, not embellished. At The Open Form, we’re drawn to that balance.
